Masonry Wall with large opening design

Masonry Wall with large opening design

Masonry Wall with large opening design

(OP)
Im trying to design a masonry wall that is simply supported on 3 edges: top, base and right-hand edge. On the left hand edge the will be a large floor to ceiling window. I have assumed that this will be a free edge, but a line load will be imparted on it due to wind acting on the window. Is there a way of defining an equivalent wind load for the masonry wall that takes the window line load into account? Or is there a way of altering the aspect ratio to take the line load into account?

Any help/advice much appreciated.

RE: Masonry Wall with large opening design

Why wouldn’t you span the CMU wall from top to bottom, and over the majority of the wall grout and reinforce as needed for a uniform wind load. Then at the window jamb add some extra grouting and reinforcing to account for the line load from the window framing? When you get away from the window jamb about half the height of the wall, or less, all of that extra line loading should have been accounted for and fully developed.

Like dhengr said. Or better still, have the window jamb frame from top to bottom like the wall.
