Shell Structure - FEA software

Shell Structure - FEA software

(OP)
Dear All

I am looking for suitable FEA software to deal with Shell Structure.
(roof shell structure (concrete/steel) and supporting numerous vertical loads)
Resulted in two modules (ABAQUS or TNO DIANA).

Any feed back will be useful to choose relevant sotware to deal with this structure.

Regards
Murali

RE: Shell Structure - FEA software

Almost all commercial FEA software has the capability to handle shells. Nastran, Ansys, and Cosmos I think can be added to your list.

RE: Shell Structure - FEA software

Pretty much any of them. All really depends on how much you want to spend.

RE: Shell Structure - FEA software

Yes, i agree with every one states, all the FEM have the plate (shear), membrane (tension) or both on them. There are software for civil structures like SAP2000, RAM, Robot have the behavior you are looking for, they are not so good for solid elements because the meshing option, but they are improving.

So you have a wider range with lower price to look for.

RE: Shell Structure - FEA software

Like most things in life, you get what you pay for. The more expensive programs will be much more user friendly, especially when handling complex geometry or large assemblies.
