Route Study Software

Route Study Software

(OP)
I work for a heavy lift/heavy haul contractor, and I wanted to see what software is available to help us in our route studies.
The way we do route studies now is essentially to identify a route in Google Earth, and then just slowly scroll along the path identifying bridges, civil structures like culverts, overpass clearances, etc.
I'm sure there is something out there that identifies those things with GIS, but most GIS applications are probably more robust than we would need.
Is there anything that operates like Google Maps, allowing you to select a route, and identifies points of interest along the route? I'd love any suggestions!

RE: Route Study Software

It sounds like you are looking for a larger version of NYSDOT's OS?OW prescreening tool: https://www.dot.ny.gov/gisapps/osowscreen?nd=nysdo...

I don't know if other state DOTs have similar websites. I'd check with the federal motor carrier administration, and motor freight associations.
