Hello,
This is my first post on these forums, though I've searched them several times before.

I've been doing a lot of work with Dolphin and Fender designs lately. A colleague of mine correctly directed me to the AASHTO Vessel Collision Design of Highway Bridges a while back.

When attempting to use the formula C7.3.3-8 for the Maximum Resisting Moment, I noticed the units do not seem to come out quite right. It should be a moment, though it would come out to simply force units.

Mmax = (1/3) Gammaf b H2 (TanPhi + Mu)

Related, I also noticed that another colleague in a previous example calculation altered the formula on his copy. They square the "b" term (equivalent width of a rectangular cell.) which makes the units come out right but obviously greatly increases the result.

Has anyone used this formula before, or are familiar with where it is derived from that can shed some light on this? (I have attempted, though thus far failed, to related to the formulas 6 and 7 above it in the same section.)
