Interpretation of technical text

Interpretation of technical text

(OP)

Please, could someone help me to interpret the actual meaning of the last phase of the following text in an Overhaul Manual ? English is not my native language and I have to explain it. I was confused about. For sure it is a technical issue.

The phrase is: The shaft transfers torque from the LPT to the LPC rotor (OK for me), and the forward (cold) external drive load (?).

I have not understanding the function of the word load in the text.
Thanks for any help.
Roberto

RE: Interpretation of technical text

It is describing the typical arrangement of a power turbine where the load is normally driven from a shaft extending from the compressor end of the machine. The text might have made slightly more sense if it had been written as "... the forward (cold) external driven load.". In context 'cold' seems to refer to the inlet end, as distinct from the 'hot' exhaust end.

RE: Interpretation of technical text

As Scotty has noted, combustion turbines come in "hot end drive" and "cold end drive." The words you quote to me say to me that this is a cold end drive machine. The LM-6000 was mentioned in another thread witin the last few days. It is a 'cold end' drive machine. Large "F" frame machines are as well. There are othere.
