heat treating?

heat treating?

heat treating?

(OP)
I am looking for a good book for heat treating.  I am a tool maker and am familar with hardening d-2, a-2, o-1. I just bought a heat treat furnace and had a piece of 6150 to harden.  I am pretty sure it is oil hardening but  at what temp and a draw temp with expected hardness.  I would really like to find a good reference book. Any recomendations would sure be helpful. I looked on Amazon but without being able to breeze through the book i hate to spend the 200.00 bucks they wanted.  A brief little reference would be nice.  Thanks. Great Site!!

RE: heat treating?

RE: heat treating?

The American Society of Metals publishes a very good heat treating hand book.  It is big, expensive, and only in print when they get enough orders.  Mine took eight months to get for $150.00.  It covers all carbon steel and stainless steel alloys.
