All around weld for cylindrical objects

All around weld for cylindrical objects

All around weld for cylindrical objects

(OP)
Does it really require, if a cylindrical object is welded on a plate (or with a cylindrical object) to give all around weld?
Isn't it implicit?
Is there any discussion about this in the ASME weld standards?

RE: All around weld for cylindrical objects

Excerpt from ANSI/AWS A2.4-98, "Standard Symbols for Welding, Brazing, and Nondestructive Examination", para. 3.10.2 (page 7):

"3.10.2. Circumferential welds. Weld extending around the circumference of a pipe are excluded from the requirement regarding changes in direction and do not require the weld-all-around symbol to specify continouos weld."

RE: All around weld for cylindrical objects

I believe that example is for a fluid containing hollow cylinder joined to another fluid containing hollow cylinder. For other configurations, you definitely need to state if a full circumferential weld is necessary or if segments are allowable.

RE: All around weld for cylindrical objects

Rule 1 is make your drawings clear.

"Implicit" = ambiguous.

The fact that you had to ask goes to show the possibility for misunderstanding.

No one will not understand "all around" in your example.
