ETABS RHO (RELIABILITY/REDUNDANCY RATIO)

ETABS RHO (RELIABILITY/REDUNDANCY RATIO)

(OP)
I'm using an ETABS 9.7 to analyze a four story building and i really don't know on how to extract Rho (Reliability/Redundancy Ratio) for each element in ETABS. Could you give me the procedure on how to do it. Thanks

RE: ETABS RHO (RELIABILITY/REDUNDANCY RATIO)

Rho applies to the structure as a whole and not just individual elements. ETABS uses a procedure from the older IBC2000, which had a different way of calculating rho. Per the new ASCE, rho ranges from 1.0 to 1.3, depending on how redundant the building is.

RE: ETABS RHO (RELIABILITY/REDUNDANCY RATIO)

Apologies, it is dependent on the story and not the structure as a whole. That is, your building can have 2 stories that require a rho=1.3, but the other two may not.
