Gouge check is not equal to collision check?
Gouge check is not equal to collision check?
(OP)
I have some cavity mill toolpaths. Some of them generated with the setting 'Check tool and holder' OFF. So there are some toolholder collisions. No problem. If I ask for the shortest tool length, it gives correct value. With the short tool (shorter than the reported one), I made a gouge check (The window title: Gouge and collision check) with the option 'Check tool and holder' switched ON.
The appalling result:
Gouge check does not support non-uniform stock. Only one stock value will be used.
Stock used:0.5
No gouged motions found.
Is it in NX 8.5.0.23.
How should I check my paths?
Fortunately it is only a test license..

To the Toolmaker, your nice little cartoon drawing of your glass looks cool, but your solid model sucks. Do you want me to fix it, or are you going to take all week to get it back to me so I can get some work done?

I use no methods, the stock inside the workpiece is 0.

Are you talking about just cavity mill paths, or do you have other types of operations that violate and gouge the part?

We need an answer to
1) if other operations gouge, which ones, and why,
and
2) why gouge checking does not recognize gouges.

I have used Sequential-Mill in UG when Catia was failing to produce the tool-motion. However, I noticed that UG didn't detect the gouge using Gouge Checking. And I found those gouges after I imported the cl file inside Catia. This was at my last job over 4 years ago. So I don't know if this is still the same.
