Modelling fluid flow of jet as a force in FEA (static structural)
Modelling fluid flow of jet as a force in FEA (static structural)
(OP)
Dear Eng-tips,
I have imported the geometry of a small pelton wheel into ANSYS. I have been tasked with performing FEA, however I am not sure how to model the force effect of the jet? I have the dimensions of the flow (velocity, density, area) and know the force it will be producing, but how can I introduce this as a force into a static structural FEA analysis?
Will I have to construct the jet in the geometry? If so, what do I use for its material properties? I don't want the jet in the final results, also I need to be able to move the jet easily to take recordings at different angles / locations - what can you suggest?
(Image of Pelton attached)
Thanks,
Max

RE: Modelling fluid flow of jet as a force in FEA (static structural)
I created a plane on the back of one bucket and drew a circle to match the area of influence that the jet would have on it. I then extruded just the lines through the surface so that on the front of the bucket there was a surface showing where the jet would hit. I then applied the force equivalent to the flow on this area.
