NX8.5: Flickering work area under Linux 64bit

NX8.5: Flickering work area under Linux 64bit

NX8.5: Flickering work area under Linux 64bit

(OP)
Hello,

I've been lent for a period a copy of NX 8.5 for Linux 64bit. I installed it under Arch Linux 64bit, which is up-to-date, and when I launch NX issuing at the terminal "$UGII_ROOT_DIR/ugii" the splash screen appears and I get into NX.
However, the rendering of the GUI is really bad. Menu names, for example, don't appear until I hover the mouse over the menu bar. The general appearance is quite dull, but I suppose that's because NX is using Motif as graphic toolkit. The worse is that the workspace, where modeling should take place, flickers at high frequency when I move the mouse inside of it, and sometimes it doesn't even display a workspace, just a grey area. If there's something modelled inside, rotating or panning the view also causes the same flicker and I would get succesive superimposed images showing the different positions the model had while rotating/panning it. The console shows no errors at all.
As you can imagine, it's impossible to work with it. I've checked the options and all seems right. I will give you the specs of my machine, hoping that someone can shed some light:

OS: Arch Linux 64bit, with LXDE+OpenBox
Processor: AMD Phenom II X4 960T
RAM: 8GB
MoBo: Asus M5A78L-M LX
VGA: Only the built-in Radeon HD 3000 (RS780) using OSS radeon drivers from official repos

Thank you all in advance,

César

Who exactly 'loaned' you a copy of NX?

John, firstly thanks for answering.
An ex-classmate of mine wants to start a solo project for engineering consultancy, specially for cast iron. He has experience with Catia, but since he's short on budget he wants to use an Ubuntu-based workstation. He has little knowledge of Linux, and he knew I use Linux, although not Ubuntu (I use Arch, as mentioned before). He gave me a 45 day trial of NX and asked me to test it.
Anyway, since I couldn't make it work, I told him it could be due to my poor graphics card, or the fact that the software is made for Suse or Red Hat.

Is your ex-classmate a Siemens PLM partner or authorized distributor?

Not that I know. He got the trial from a demo training session. However, I understand yor concern, we thought there was no problem in sharing trial versions. I've uninstalled it after unsuccesful functioning.

If you wish an official evaluation I suggest that you contract your local Siemens PLM office or Siemens partner (where are you located?). You can use this site to request more information:

If ever needed again, try this:
Remove .nx85 directory from your home and restart the application.
