Instance features with variable parameters

Instance features with variable parameters

Instance features with variable parameters

(OP)
Is there a way to pattern/instance a feature in a way that I can adjust ONLY the parameters of the instanced features? For example, I pattern a hole linearly. They are spaced evenly apart, but I want to change the hole size of only one hole, and not the hole that was used to create the pattern. This would help with some more complex geometry that I am working on to prevent having to create a new set of features for each similar feature.

Thank you

RE: Instance features with variable parameters

After you pattern the holes go to:
Insert -> Syncronoous modeling -> resize face
and select the hole that you want to change

Is this what you are looking for?

Don't forget to mention what version of NX you are on.

My mistake, NX7.5

I realize that is a way I can do it, but there are some things that synchronous modeling will not allow control over in the way I would like it handled. I am guessing it is not possible.

To describe it a little more, imagine if I defined an expression for an angle of a corner, I instance the feature that the corner resides in, and in only one or more instanced features I want to individually change that angle dimension without affecting the parent feature.

RE: Instance features with variable parameters

Can you post a picture ?

In the example, the parent feature is a rectangular cutout. The cutout is instanced a number of times and each child has identical dimensions. What I want to do is, after the feature has been instanced, change the dimensions of the CHILD FEATURES ONLY. In the example, it would be Dimensions A through D, but the master feature, the .450 dimension, remains constant.

RE: Instance features with variable parameters

Why can't you edit only the ones you want to change with offset face/offset region/move face/pull face or other equivalent command?

Because this is only an example and there is a more complex problem I am working on (that I can't show) that synchronous modeling will not be able to solve. I only wanted to see if it was possible and if so, how. If it is not that is ok I will just need to create each feature, I was only trying to save modeling time.

Thank you

RE: Instance features with variable parameters

Once you move to NX 8.0 or NX 8.5, you will have the new 'Pattern Feature' function which allows you to explicitly edit the parameters of the instances of a 'Pattern' of features.

That's great to hear. Even more reason to make the switch.
