N00b here.... geometry from a file containing commands

N00b here.... geometry from a file containing commands

(OP)
Hi,

I am a noob in modelling. I want to model a 2d model of a plane containing a circle inside of different material. I want to take the input from a file which contains all the commands. That file (.txt, .mac etc) can be generated from matlab. I want to design in autocad (or some other software, if you suggest) and analyse in ansys workbench.

Please suggest me how this can be done, basically the designing part. Please redirect me to the tutorials related, if possible.

Thanks in advance!

RE: N00b here.... geometry from a file containing commands

Hello,

IMHO if you already have a macro written in APDL then you don't need WorkBench. Ansys Mechanical APDL will do the job.

Regarding the CAD, WorkBench has a connection to SolidWorks. You can define your geometry paremtrically in SolidWorks and import in WorkBench.

Alex

RE: N00b here.... geometry from a file containing commands

Hello,

As Meshparts has mentioned, APDL may be a good solution to this. You can get a decent idea of some of the basic commands for creating simple geometries through boolean operations from tutorials online. The link I provide below might be a good starting place for you. Since this kind of sounds like a homework problem (cough cough haha) I suggest reading through their GUI example to make sure you understand what they are looking to accomplish, then follow along with the command line solution they provide links too. It may take a little bit of time up front, but you will probably like how quickly and easily you can make changes to a simulation by editing a .txt file and simply using the file-> "read input from" command.

Hope this helps!
