Defining relative displacement on ABAQUS (as opposed to absolute displacement)

Defining relative displacement on ABAQUS (as opposed to absolute displacement)

Defining relative displacement on ABAQUS (as opposed to absolute displacement)

(OP)
I have a body on ABAQUS that translates and rotates a bit. I want to create an object that is NOT connected to the main body but displaces relative to that body. Is there any way to apply a relative displacement in ABAQUS, as opposed to the conventional absolute displacement boundary condition?

I would really like to be able to simply define the relative displacement of this object relative to the main body.

I'm open to any suggestions
Thanks!

RE: Defining relative displacement on ABAQUS (as opposed to absolute displacement)

I have not tried this so these are a couple shots in the dark:

1. Can you attach a coordinate system to a node on your reference and apply the displacement using that coordinate system? What I am not sure about is whether the coord sys will move with a particular node or if it will stay fixed.

2. I am sure you could do this with a user defined subroutine (probably DISP). But that would surely be painful.
