Hello, we want to deliver a cylind

Hello, we want to deliver a cylind

(OP)
Hello,
we want to deliver a cylindrical pressure vessel for hot water sterilization to Melbourne. We were told that it is no problem to design according to ASME, the piping does not need any specific consideration at it is not under pressure.

Is it necessary to design according to seismic loading as there is an appendix J in AS2010?
We were never asked to design with regard to earthquakes nor the customer asked us to do, but is it in our responsibility to deliver the vessel earthquake safe or is it only necessary when the customer asks for this?
Are all big (more than 1 tonne) autoklavs in Australia earthquake safe?

Somebody down under who works with this?
Silje

RE: Hello, we want to deliver a cylind

Silje,
It is your responsibility to design (and manufacture if in your scope)as per your contract and contract specifications.
If there are additional requirements (eg. called up in AS 1210)or other Australian regulations it is your customers responsibility to request compliance.
Regards,
Kiwi

RE: Hello, we want to deliver a cylind

You will have to ask an ausi about this. beter yet ask the customer.
when not specified your responsibility is to fab the vessel to the std design. In California we have Zones, if the customer does not specify,
we ask the location of installation, if it falls in EQ zones or at certain distance from an EQ fault, we design accordingly.
and we quote accordingly. when not specified, we disclaim to add if EQ compliance needed later in the design phase...
