Problem with SolidEdge dft file to open with NX 8.5 ?

Hi Guys,

Is there any possible ways to open SolidEdge dft file from NX 8.5?

Please also suggest is there any alternative way to resolve the problem such as buying converter or exporting into different format.

Thank you

regards

Rodney

RE: Problem with SolidEdge dft file to open with NX 8.5 ?

you'll never be able to open native model or draft files from any other system, the only way is to convert to some sort of data exchange format. Part history will always be lost. Your best option is to re draft it, unless of course it will never need updating, in which case, either use the pdf from solid edge, or import it as a .dxf onto NX

RE: Problem with SolidEdge dft file to open with NX 8.5 ?

Just to clarify - native SolidEdge models and assemblies can be opened directly in NX.
I believe the question is about dft files only.

The "right" way to work with these drawings in NX depends on the circumstances- how many you have to work with, and what you need to do with the drawings. Some options...
  • (no need to edit) - viewable format such as PDF
  • (basic editing, no associativity) - translate via DXF or similar
  • (full editing, associative to 3D) - keep them in SolidEdge, manually re-draft in NX, or look at translators from companies like ITI TranscenData, Elysium, or Core Technologies
Good luck,
Tony

Thanks for your suggestion fellows. Dft format is off course not a best way to export file but I have few dft files from the old data base and would like to open those through NX as we no longer use SolidEdge but Speaking to the Siemens PLM, NX is not compatible with dft files although it can open the models and assemblies directly in NX as Mark Rief has mentioned.
Thanks
