exploded views selection issues in nx8.0

(OP)
NX8.0.3.4/Windows 7 Professional

When creating an exploded view using a selection preference of inside/crossing, instead of just getting components with geometry, as it worked in NX7 it's also selecting the empty component (sub assembly) which then is selecting components not within/crossing the selection window. This also happens when selecting a component with a single pick, if the mouse is left over the component after selecting it, the quick pick box will come up and the empty sub assembly component will show up in the list and can be picked.

There is no geometry in these sub assemblies, and it does not matter what the selection filters/intent dialogs are set to (entire assembly, work part and components, or work part only), they are always available for selection which is not desirable for our process. Auto-explode does not give good results.

The problem is instead of taking a few dozen picks using windowing to select the componens it is now taking hundreds of mouse clicks picking components individually (very carefully done) to create an explosion.

A call to gtack did not find any solution to this.....so I'm wondering what others are experiencing with exploded views in NX8....and is NX8.5 any better?
