sorry if i'm beating a dead horse
hvac for 5000 sf (1STY) building
It is and alteration to combine 5 retail stores into an nice food market. they have some seating at front for people to have lunch and checkout register.

i did my load calcs , looked at supply/ exhaust / ventilation/ infiltration
The refrigeration supplier doesn't have values for case refrigeration effect and says 'these small markets don't trench the floor to p/u case spillage with hvac returns.
Ashrae has table values of refrigeration effect
the owner wants to use the existing roof curbs and not spend too much money.

infiltration and pressurization are blurry to me. i get some different values . so i'm just going take a percentage
of group

my recommendation is going to be to meet load with RTu , spot radiant heating by tables and checkout, and air curtain by sliding auto door. ?
i suspect they will just want rtu and 2pairs of socks as Goober Dave said

RE: market hvac

That's exactly the kind of layout I have seen in such a market, norske35. There are a couple of nice farmers' markets near me with small dining areas. I noticed the spot radiant heaters, and of course one can't help but notice a blasting air curtain.

But I have also seen the double-socks kind much more often. I think you are right, the owner's budget will play the final role...

The key, I think, is that you recommend what you think will do the best job. If the owner cuts it back, you are on the record with your recommendation in case of complaints later on.

In my experience, which is in controls and building energy modeling more than HVAC design: If the market is kind of a really-nice, upscale place, either the owner will go ahead with the most comfortable solution or he will come back later and add what is needed to keep the customers happy.

Best to you,

Goober Dave

RE: market hvac

if you plan rtu for supply air, than it is quite convenient to place exhaust elements as low as possible.

solving supply air distribution for both (summer-winter) modes can be another challenge.
