Thread sealent using sulfuric acid.

(OP)
Have an acid injection system using 93% sulfuric acid with a <1ph. The educator is 1” Kynar Water Jet Eductor. On the suction side have a 1" to 1/2" sch. 80 male reducer. All the piping to the educators is sch 80. Problem I have a leak at the male connector. I have use blue monster teflon tape to wrap the threads to no avail. Any suggestions on a thread sealant I can use for this appication?
Thanks

RE: Thread sealent using sulfuric acid.

What is the material of your pipe? Sealing metal to plastic pipe threads can be a problem because of the differing thermal expansion.

Sorry schedule 80 PVC male reducer

RE: Thread sealent using sulfuric acid.

Are you using water to pump and dilute sulfuric acid? That can generate a lot of heat.

Yes we have domstic water that comes up through the educator creating a suction drawing the acid into the line. Yes we did a heat test and it was 128 degrees external at the junction (were the male adapter is connected to the Kynar educator).

RE: Thread sealent using sulfuric acid.

Mixing sulfuric acid and water can be very dangerous and result in small steam explosions and spraying of acid. You really need to be careful, particularly when you start or stop, and there is no flow at the acid water interface. That's about as much as I can help you.
