Assembly constraints using existing points

Assembly constraints using existing points

Assembly constraints using existing points

(OP)
Why can't I create an assembly constraint which references an existing datum point with NX-8.0?
If I select other types of points ie. end point, mid point, or circle center there is no issue.
However if I try to select an existing datum point NX displays a alert "The point references an invalid geometry and cannot be used in a constraint.
Am I missing something? Has anyone else found a way around this issue?

RE: Assembly constraints using existing points

Well, I had NO problems using NX 8.0.3.4 to constrain a Component to 'datum' points located either in another Component or in the Assembly file itself. Now it is true that not all of the constraint types will work with points, but certainly Touch/Align, Distance and Bond seem to work just fine.

Possibly I need to upgrade?
I am working on a earlier release. NX 8.0.0.25

RE: Assembly constraints using existing points

Perhaps it is. After all, the current MR, NX 8.0.3.4, has been available since last September.
