1955 Roof Live Loads

(OP)
Anyone have any information as to what the UBC would have shown for required roof live loads back in 1955? Probably would be under the 1952 UBC...

My Data Book for Civil Engineers 3rd ed page 1-10 gives the following

American Standards Assoc. 1955 20psf
Nat. Bd. of Fire Underwriters 1955 20psf
Pacific Coast Bd. Officials Conf. 1955 20psf
Southern Std. Bldg. Code 1954 20psf
New York 1957 40psf
Chicago 1956 25psf
Philadelphia 1957 30psf
Dallas 1951 20psf
Detroit 1957 30psf

As a footnote to the Pacific Coast Bd. Officials Conf. it gives "Or Uniform Building Code 1955"

As EOR's we should take the responsibility to design our structures to support the components we allow in our design per that industry standards.

Welcome.

And the copyright for the book are for 1945, 1951 and 1960. Originally by Elwyn E. Seelye

RE: 1955 Roof Live Loads

Those sound like snow loads, as distinguished from live loads.

RE: 1955 Roof Live Loads

The cities ones are probably based on snow loads. The others are based on roof live load.

On page 1-13 of the book it shows a map of the USA with the snow loads very similar to the snow maps in the IBC and ASCE 7-05 that is from the American Standards Building Code Requirements for Minimum Design Loads in Buildings and Other Structures, A58 1-1955 by the American Standards Association. Except that it is based on a 1 year in 10. But is does not have any snow loads for about half the western USA, mainly the mountain areas.
