Need Sizes

(OP)
Hi,

Working on a product I have for swimming pools and finalising. My product attaches to end of swimming pool poles. In Australia, pool pole (32mm OD) fits inside the product fitting. I am not sure how it fits US swimming pool poles. Can somebody assist and give me ID and OD of US swimming pool extension poles and how do products attach. Does fitting fit inside pole or does it slide over outside of pole. And how secured. I have a suspision that US and Australia are different and would have to look at accomadating this. If somebody can help it would be appreciated. If you have photo, please post.

Thanks for your help

RE: Need Sizes

Maybe if you post a photo of your product first, we might understand your requirement for information. However, I think you will find that there are several different types of swimming pool poles in the US.

Thanks hokie66. I have provided photo how pool fittings/products fit on extension poles in Australia, they all have same fitting. Extension Pole is 32mm OD. I am not sure how products attach to US swimming pool extension poles.

Do they fit over the pole as shown if so what is OD of pole. If not do they fit inside the pole and if so what is ID of pole or OD of product fitting? If various sizes, what is the preferred or most common size

Thanks

RE: Need Sizes

In the one year that I had an above ground pool I managed to snap the head of my skimmer. I went to the store to buy a replacement head only to determine that as far as I could tell there wasn't a 'standard' attachment method or pole dia even. I jury rigged something with the head they did have available and the pole left from my original one.

If memory serves they were both ball detente type attachments.

RE: Need Sizes

As I am in development of my product, I need to make sure it fits all poles internationally, as I do not want to if I can avoid manufacturing different end fittings for each country.

As outlined in Australia our poles fit inside the fittings whereas in USA they fit outside the fittings. What I have deduced - US Telescopic poles 1 3/4" OD and 1 1/2" ID. Product fittings 1 1/2" OD and 1 1/4" ID. Australian Telescopic poles 1 1/4" OD and whatever thickness from here ID as it does not matter. If keeping with the above logic, Australian poles would be 1" ID.

This explains why I have seen different sizes of product fittings which baffled me. In US you have both sizes of telescopic poles.

Telescopic poles with 1 3/4" OD have no butterfly spring but the attachments each require one and explains why these products are sold with a spring whereas telescopic poles with 1 1/4" OD require just the one butterfly spring and explains why these are sold with the spring on the pole and none on the attachments.

I hope other product developers came up with the same solution although your post Kenat now worries me as by my reasoning the skimmer should have fitted inside or outside your pole, just a matter of removing the butterfly spring off one and putting it on the other.

I would appreciate if anybody could confirm this.

Thanks

RE: Need Sizes

If your market analysis has shown that there is a demand for your "product" in the US, it would behoove you to obtain some poles to verify the design before charging ahead. In this day and age, Amazon can supply most anything. You not only need to satisfy yourself that your "product" will fit, but that it will be serviceable. Things like pruning saws work, but are hard on the pole and fitting. Maybe you should plan a holiday to the US, and visit all the pool shops you can. That might require some travel there, as the poles probably vary from one region to the next, but across the South from California to Florida will be your market.

RE: Need Sizes

Titanic Enterprises Inc is willing to tender for a survey of USA swimming pool thingies in situ. Our rates are very reasonable in our opinion and you will be able to offset the cost against future profits.

This time of year I and my research assistant would advise California and Florida as suitable areas for research. I already have digital callipers and Speedos, all I need is your money. Please advise soonest.

Cheers

RE: Need Sizes

Please forward me the "best and final" bid from Titanic Enterprises for their FL and LA field research on swimming pool tool diameters.

My bid will be at your office the next morning...... 8<)

RE: Need Sizes

Bid rigging! Shocking!

RE: Need Sizes

No, no, no. Bid fixing. Simply "fixing" my bid. That's my story and I'm sticking to it: I'm "fixing" to make my bid more competitive so he can avoid that long expensive trip up here.

I'll be generous - I'll even throw in one (or two) consultations down under so he can avoid those looooong airplane trips.

RE: Need Sizes

OK, I'll play. This is free: The skimmer I had fit into 3/4" Sch 40. Or was it 1"? Either way, that's generous:)

Regards,

Mike
