Brick Veneer Exp Joint

(OP)
Hello All,
The location and design of expansion /control joints in brick veneer:
How in practice the spacing/location of expansion joint is handled.I don't see in Architectural specs about this and also no drawings are prepared.I assume it must be the subject of coordination/negotiation between the architect and structural engineer. But who produce specs or drawings for this.I assume waiting to shop drawings to come and mark up there is not good parctice or may be too late if it don't work out.

YOur thoughts and experiences are highly appreciated.
Thanks

RE: Brick Veneer Exp Joint

Brick expansion joints should be shown on the architectural elevations.

Concur with Dave... veneer is a 'finish' and the location of the joints affects the appearance of the overall structure.

Also agree with Dave. The architect should not only show the joints, but should detail them, both horizontal and vertical.

RE: Brick Veneer Exp Joint

I also agree with Dave. But, you better be ready to help spec., space, locate and detail the joints if you want to stay out of trouble. Because Archs. don’t want them, don’t like them. They think any joints screw up the edifice to their egos, and they have a fair amount of trouble doing them right.

Thanks to all for replies. Very good information about the topics. Finally, our Architecture is preparing a drawngs with our input and coordination.
