3.2 meter column formworks

3.2 meter column formworks

(OP)

In upper floor, the column is 3.2 meters and the formworks would be about 3 meters and they would be poured at once. Is this not too long and can cause honeycomb at the bottom? But renting pumpcrete is expensive if only say 2 meters would be poured, what do you think? Is external vibrator effective as the vibrator put from the top may not be long enough to reach the bottom.

RE: 3.2 meter column formworks

I have never seen external vibration of a column attempted. 3.2 metre columns should present no problems in placement or compaction. Hoses are available at least 6 metres long, so why is that an issue? In addition to lack of compaction, honeycombing is commonly caused by leaky forms, so watch that. Why is the formwork shorter than the column?

RE: 3.2 meter column formworks

As hokie66 said, the leakage is a main reason for the honeycomb.
Concreting of 3 meters height columns is not an issue if the formwork is level and tight with good supports.

Good luck
