Caltrans Standard Plan tables for Trench footing

Caltrans Standard Plan tables for Trench footing

(OP)
I have been considering designing a sound wall that I am working on with a Trench footing rather than a spread footing as I have usually used. I believe the trench footing would be easier to install and would take up less real estate.
I set up an analysis for wind (and seismic) loading – which is based soil pressures that conform to the provisions of the 2007 CBC Section 1805.7.2.1.

I have been looking at the Caltrans Standard Plans and their Design Standards for Sound Walls.
My question is, in the Caltrans Standard Plan tables for Trench footing, they reference a θ value that is less than 25, 30 or 35. Nowhere on the Standard Plans is the θ value defined. From reading the references in their Design Standards (not the Specs but a design paper), I gather this is the angle of internal friction.
Have other people looked at this, and if so, do you believe this is the angle of internal friction?
Thank you
