Ball Valve Seats

Ball Valve Seats

Ball Valve Seats

(OP)
Hello,

My company is looking at design a ball valve using Peek seats. Typically up to 2" size and 7000 psi at 400 deg F maximum. We are having trouble sealing the valve using seats contoured to the ball. Is there a special Peek compound that we should be looking at? Should we be lapping the seats? What is a good lapping compound?

Thank you,

Wes

RE: Ball Valve Seats

Hi: are you performing maintenance on the valve or have you changed the original ball or seats? Or are you designing from scratch or working on a prototype?

My focus is on corrosion-resistant, high-alloy valves for the petrochemical industry.

We are designing from scratch. Some valves leak a lot more than others. We need peek because of pressure/temperature. Currently working with virgin peek.

thank you,

RE: Ball Valve Seats

Do you have any documents that state that PEEK is good at the pressure/temperature rating? My experience with PEEK will limit working at that pressure to a lower temperature, or vice versa. My documents include a heavy safety factor, however.

Also, are you set in having a spherical sealing surface? You may get better results from a edge seal.

RE: Ball Valve Seats

I could probably be coerced ($$$$) into providing my experience and knowledge to solve this issue. It is not something I'm willing to give away.

Plus I don't want the Chinese industrial knowledge thieves to see it.
