Constraints selection by rectangle in NX8.5

Constraints selection by rectangle in NX8.5

Constraints selection by rectangle in NX8.5

(OP)
Hi,

In NX8, it was possible to select some constraints (colinear and equal length in the given example) with a small rectangle selection around the first symbols.

In NX8.5 we need to draw a big rectangle around all symbols. It's very bad and dangerous because another constraint could be inside this big rectangle evil

I hope to be clear: have a look at the zip file that containt 2 images and the NX8 part

I hope to be wrong and that there is a setting dazed

RE: Constraints selection by rectangle in NX8.5

So there isn't a option to make it so that you can select half of a constraint so that you can delete it. But they do offer the single click selection so that you can delete it quickly. I'm not sure if you noticed this, but if you place your cursor over the constraint you should see a faded out black X in the background. When you select the constraint with a single click you will be able to delete without doing a window select. You may want to change your Selection Filter to Sketch Constraint.

Hi Joe,

I know this work around but I need the same UI than previous version.

I'm tired of changing my habits (I am laso preparing a new post about bridge curve in NX8.5evil)

RE: Constraints selection by rectangle in NX8.5

Actually there IS a 'setting' that will allow you to rectangle select around only one 'half' of a Constraint and still get both parts.

Go to...

Preferences -> Selection...

...and change the 'Selection Rule' to 'Crossing' instead of 'Inside'.

Now you will need to be careful since in your example the Line will also be 'Crossing' the selection rectangle so you will either need to filter for 'Sketch Constraints' or if you don't set a filter, you will need to be prepared to deselect (Shift-Select) any object with is not of interest before pressing the 'Delete' key.

Now to make this quicker, if you haven't already, enable the 'Selection Rule' item on your Selection Bar and then you will not need to go to Preferences every time that you wish to change the Selection Rule to 'Crossing' and then back to 'Inside' afterwards.

Hi John,

Thanks for your answer. It works but it's a little disturbing to change our habits to each version

RE: Constraints selection by rectangle in NX8.5

This change was really the result of addressing a PR since in NX 8.0 we were ignoring the 'Selection Rule' altogether which resulted in cases where you didn't have any control over what was being picked while you were in the Sketcher so this change was made to both provide the control that the 'Selection Rule' was designed to give you as well as to make it more consistent with other situations where selecting 'half' of something WASN'T considered enough to mean that you really wanted it all. Consistency is its own virtue.

Ok John, I agree with your virtue
