Selection of Pulsation Dampener: Volume Bottle vs Bladder Type

Selection of Pulsation Dampener: Volume Bottle vs Bladder Type

(OP)
Dear all,

I have a doubt on the selection of type of pulsation dampener. DMDS (1 % wt, moderately toxic) and Naphtha (99% wt, highly flammable) solution is going to be pumped by PD Piston Pump, the flow rate of the pump is 14 lit/hr and the discharge pressure is 47 kg/cm². For this all vendors given Discharge Pulsation Dampener of "Bladder type", expect one vendor. He has given "Volume Bottle" type. Whether i should accept that or not..? Actually, I don't know how the pulsation dampener type is selected. Whether it has any relation with pumping fluid characteristics (Pressure, flow, Flammable, toxic). Pls clarify. Thanks.

RE: Selection of Pulsation Dampener: Volume Bottle vs Bladder Type

I have not experienced this myself, but problems have been reported here with the bottle type (without a bladder) in that the solubility of the gas in the liquid will eventually cause the gas to be flushed away.

RE: Selection of Pulsation Dampener: Volume Bottle vs Bladder Type

Whether you use a bladder type or a volume bottle type depends mainly upon the size. And the size is determined by the pressure and by the stroke volume of the pump. Your piston pump is rather small. So, a volume bottle type will also be small and therefore an alternative. But for a highly flammable fluid I would strictly recommend to go with a bladder type dampener.
