Femap mesh beam and tetra
Femap mesh beam and tetra
(OP)
Hi,
I have problem with Femap.
Cann I mesh beam and tetra element in same solid.
Beam and tetra must have same node.

a beam is a 1D element between two nodes,
a tet is a 3D element with four nodes.

I have tetra element (concrete) and beam (bar) elements reinforcement(steel).
Beam is 1D element, and tetra is 3D element, but they must have same node.
Some nodes must be same for beam and tetra.
RE: Femap mesh beam and tetra
two things,
1) i'd suggest modelling the column as a single beam with the properties of the composite concrete and rebar(?)
2) at a minimum i think the "beam" should be modelled as a rod (if it is rebar). if it is something substantial (like an I-beam) then modelling as a beam Might be ok ... remember the solid elements only have translational freedoms so you'll need to think about constraining the bending freedoms in the beam (maybe only the torsion, Mz).
3) consider posting in the structural forum, they deal with this type of structure more often.

I know that Femap 10 cann work with beam and tetra in same solid, but I do not know which command must use, I need example(video) too.
RE: Femap mesh beam and tetra
- If the curves touch the bounding surfaces of the solid, make those points mesh points
(Mesh / Mesh Control / Mesh Points on Surface...)
- Mesh the curves to create beam elements
- Mesh the outside surfaces of the solid to create triangle elements (nodes should conicide with the mesh points)
- Ensure that there are no duplicate nodes, which are likely to be at the mesh points
- Mesh the interior of the solid (Mesh / Geometry / Solid from Elements...), selecting both triangle and beam element types
The resulting tet mesh should conform to the interior beam elements.

In file is modeel in Femap 8.1, and stap by step procedure in Word.
This is cube with length 10, and one line. All line was modelled with 2 element.
Model must have same node for tetra and beam elements.
