Transformers' Area Calculation

Transformers' Area Calculation

Transformers' Area Calculation

(OP)
Hi All Members,

How to calculate the Area of the Transformer to get the Flow Rate for a Deluge System ?

For Example, Should I calculate the Area of the Transformer's Core and add it to the Area of the Radiators and to the Area of the Oil Tank ?

OR, to calculate the whole Area as if it was a large Cuboid ?

RE: Transformers' Area Calculation

Use the most conservative approach.

RE: Transformers' Area Calculation

Are you adding a deluge system within the transormer area or room?

RE: Transformers' Area Calculation

Consider the exposed area, it is all, including radiators, top, sides (add the area of the dike in the flow req. if applies), supose there is a fire in the flor around, or a big fire beside, and that you have to keep the oil cointainning parts cool, that is the exposed area to consider.
Remember that this will not be an actual flow, since you have to consider spray overlap, the k of the nozzle and the pressure range the systme can meet in actual operation, after all check if the flow meets the NFPA minimum.

RE: Transformers' Area Calculation

It is insane to put a deluge system in a transformer room, reconsider not to do it.
