hello gentlemen,
I have a question: Do I need to have a PE license to be able to sell FEA services?
regards

RE: FEA engineering services

i'd think so ... you're offering engineering services to the public ... the public need to be protected !?

RE: FEA engineering services

I've worked with consultants (for FEA analysis) that were not a PE. This was not a structural analysis or something that was for public use or where life and limb were at stake (i.e. bridge, building,...).

I bet there are some potential customers that would skip over non-PE's when they are searching so your customer base would probably be larger if you got the PE license.

RE: FEA engineering services

sure, you can work for another company ... they'd take responsibility. but it sounds like a catch 22 ...
they're getting you to do the specialised analysis they can't but they're responsibile for it ...
i'd expect they'd prefer it if you stamped your own analysis.
but then it's unlikely that "joe public" is going to walk in your front door and ask you for an FEA !?

where are you ?

thanks fellas; I am located in Iowa rb1957; it seems the structural analysis practice is unregulated when it comes to selling FEA services to a corporation who would accept the risk; is this a right statement?

RE: FEA engineering services

Let's see. If I were a PE and wanted a material tested, I'd send it to a test laboratory. That test is being done under my direction, so there is no need for the presser of buttons and recorder of results to be a PE.

Same with FEA.

Cheers
