Transportation of a vessel in a building

Transportation of a vessel in a building

Transportation of a vessel in a building

(OP)
We have a molecular seive vessel which is 5m high and the diameter is 3m. The weight is 12 tonnes so it is not light. Anyway we need to transport this on its side in a concrete building. We have to transport it on its side because of clashes with other plant. What sort of device can we use to transport it with this in mind? Would airpads be an option if it came in a crate? Or can you get some sort of mechanical bogies that would handle this size and weight?

RE: Transportation of a vessel in a building

This is a job for professional machine movers. They will decide how to accomplish the task given the equipment they have and from experience.

Thanks. Yeah I agree however we have to ensure the vessel will actually go in. Therefore I need a rough idea of what will be used to move it.

RE: Transportation of a vessel in a building

Get OUT of your chair.
Get INTO the building with a 25 foot (8 meter) tape measure!
Go WALK the building and SEE whether your load will run into anything.

Now, when do do the first three things, THEN start looking UP at heights (to ensure the tank will pass below and above ALL potential interferences.
Look at the heights of door and garage openings, electrical cables and pipes and crane rails and plumbing and fire lines and cable trays and equipment.
THEN look DOWN at the floor and concrete and find out how level it is, whether steps, ramps, offsets, inclines, or doorways will interfere with a simple roller or forklift.
Now, once you've done that, take a few pictures and post the results.

WHEN you have finished your homework, then walk through the path again but with a full-scale template (of 2x4's or light rods or bent rebar.... anything that will maintain its shape but let you carry it safely) . Double check your assumptions and triple check ALL "corners" where you will need to turn or twist the vessel. If you have height restrictions, make the template the right right height as well.

RE: Transportation of a vessel in a building

2000lb phone has the answer.

RE: Transportation of a vessel in a building

Thanks for the answer! However the building has not been built yet. We are working with 3d models. We know the vessel will go in side ways but I need to find some lifting device in order to check the dimensions. Going from the weight and dimensions how can you transport this tank on its side on a concrete floor?

RE: Transportation of a vessel in a building

Hi can you possibly give me a link to one of the simple rollers you suggest please?

RE: Transportation of a vessel in a building

Look up Hillman Rollers and then call in the pros!!
