Guinea pigs needed for a possible dimension bug

Guinea pigs needed for a possible dimension bug

Guinea pigs needed for a possible dimension bug

Hi.

I'm using NX 7.5.4.4 MP8.

Could someone please see if they could create a tube that has a length of 100.9 with any diameter, then place a hole or boss in the middle of the tube. The result should basically be the same as if you'd be looking at the part in the FRONT "canned"/default view and the tube axis was running along X and the hole/boss was parallel and/or in-line with the Z axis. Create a front view of the tube in drafting & place a 3D centerline through the center of the hole/boss. Create a Perpendicular dimension to one decimal place from the face of each end to the 3D centerline of the hole/boss. Does anyone get one end rounding up and the other rounding down? My tube is XXX.9mm long and one dimension to the center of the hole/boss is rounded to .5 and the opposite end is rounded to .4. Is this working as it should and is it behaving the same way in newer versions of NX?

Also, in recent releases of NX, are the gaps (values H and J under Dimension Style Line/Arrow tab) between the ends of dimension extension lines and 2D, 3D and Center Marks providing the correct gaps or are they still snapping to the centerline's control points? This is a minor thing but quite annoying behavoir when I see my extension lines overlapping centerlines rather than a gap between the end of the extension line and the centerline.

Thanks to all in advance!

I don't know, it works for me:

Note that I built this model and drawing using NX 7.5.5.4.

Hmmmm...not sure what's causing this to happen. It could be in my customer defaults. The way they're set here, I don't have access to the Drafting Standards.

I'm not aware of any sort of 'default' setting would have an effect on results like this.

That being said, there may be an issue with exactly how you defined the 'middle' of this item. I created a mid-datum plane between the two ends and then sketched a circle to be coincident to that plane which was then extruded to form the 'boss'.

Of interest of course, is that your example shows the problem that exists if you don't indicate that at least one of these dimensions is for reference only.

I figured it out - one of the tube centerlines wasn't EXACTLY on the axis (out to more than 10 decimal places). I put them into a sketch and that took care of any possible skewing that was going on. Thanks for taking the time to check it for me John.
