thread404-11986: Rect Water Storage Tank
Hi, I'm new to this site and I happen to stumble upon this thread while googling for a design of a water storage tank. The tank is not under pressure, and is open on top. The dimensions are L33'X W13' X H6'. I am trying to find how many external stiffeners both horizontal and vertical I need to support the pressure. I'm thinking of a 2"x2" 10ga formed c-channel as stiffeners. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

No matter how you attach a CH 2x2 to the wall, it is a very inefficient use of steel!
Why both horizontal AND vertical stiffeners? You're making what should be just a plain inexpensive box very, very difficult (can you spell expensive and time-consuming?) to weld up and fit all of the nested channels if you demand both horizontal and vertical ribs.
Do you have a walkway or platform around the top?
RE: Rectangular Open Top Tank
We don't have a walkway directly on top on the tank, just on the side and is level with the top of the tank.
