What is Engineering anyway: FAQ1088-1484: In layman terms, what is "engineering"?
RE: interference fit, ANSI B4, FN5, hands on experience
Once, a very long time ago, I designed a telescope tube that press fit onto its metal ends. The press fit was soft enough that you could assemble it by hand. I made the telescope tube out of nylon. The tube was around nine inches in diameter.
Work out the contact and friction forces of metal to metal interference fits. The forces are very high. You need a press to assemble this stuff.
