Hi,

I'm a new NX administrator and looking for some advice on how to setup site customer defaults? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

RE: NX7.5 Customer defaults

The customer defaults are kept in a *.dpv file. You can customise your defaults then export the *.dpv file allowing multiple users to have the same set-up.

RE: NX7.5 Customer defaults

Plus, Customer Defaults can be managed at three levels, User, Group and Site. The primary difference is that these can be used to provide a hierarchy of control. For example, at the 'Site' level you can set and LOCK settings which can't be changed at the Group or User level, and at the 'Group' level you can set and lock settings which can't be changed at the User level. This provides a scheme where an organization can impose 'standards' which can company-wide, project-wise, etc.

However, one should approach at least the idea of 'Locking' a setting with some caution since this 'power' can be overdone. If one does decide to use this 3-tier Customer Defaults scheme and you do wish to lock some settings are either the Site or Group level (there is NO option to 'lock' anything at the 'User' level since, by definition, that's bottom of the 'food chain' so who would they be imposing these changes on except themselves but since they're doing the setting what good is locking something that anyone else at the 'User' level could change) make sure that what's being locked are truly items which you want to lock down. In the end, if it's NOT critical that something could be changed then DON'T lock it down, leave that to the Group or User to decide. This is one of those places where the less that you do, the better, leaving as much as possible to the desecration of the 'User' him/herself.
