I am new member to this forum.I have question related to effective length of column in appendix F CAN/CSA S16-01.For sway frame case e & f value of k is 2.i was designing a portal frame of a industrial building, what should i use it.is it k = 2 / k =1.Thanks in advance.

Lex of 2 in the portal direction and Ley of 1 in the secondary direction if the building is braced in that direction. Fly bracing or other bracing can reduce the effective length.

asixth is correct. you need to check lateral restraint in the direction both both axis'
