Multiple PQR advantage

Multiple PQR advantage

Multiple PQR advantage

(OP)
I have one PQR qualified on 6 mm thickness plate(A516 Gr70) with impact test & by GTAW process.Another PQR qualfied on 12 mm plate (A516 Gr 70)with impact test by GTAW+SMAW process. weld metal deposit for 12 mm thick plate was 3 mm (GTAW) & 9 mm(SMAW).

Now I have a job of 10.97 mm thickness which requires impact testing.

Can I develope WPS using GTAW+SMAW process(having above to PQRs as a supporing PQR) for this job.Can 18 mm weld deposit qualification of 12 mm thickness PQR cupon be used here so that I can use the advantage of SMAW welding to maximize the productivity.By this way my thickness range in WPS will be 6 mm to 24 mm.

Is my interpretation per QW200.2(f)is correct??

RE: Multiple PQR advantage

No because you have not qualified the SMAW process on material thickness less than 12mm.
