Use of brass (ASTM B111) under sour production conditions

Use of brass (ASTM B111) under sour production conditions

Use of brass (ASTM B111) under sour production conditions

(OP)
Hi,

We have been given an option to use brass (spec ASTM B111) as the barrel material for downhole plunger pumps.

This is the material composition Cu:70.5%; Sn:1%; Pb:0.017%; Zn:28.403% and As:0.04%.

Here are the operating conditions of the well: Pressure between 5000 to 8000 kPa, Temperature of 25C, Chlorides of 60,000 ppm, CO2 of 10% and H2S between 1 and 2%.

If you have experience with this material, please let me know what your thoughts are. I am honestly not very sure about the use of brass under sour conditions.

Thanks!!!
