Issues with contact model (forging)

Issues with contact model (forging)

Issues with contact model (forging)

(OP)
Hi,

Firstly, sorry about the first post cry for help. I've been a long-time lurker but never posted before.

I'm trying to remodel a basic example of forging which was throwing up some annoying errors (excessively large element distortions and penetration of slidelines).
The model itself has a die and a workpiece which are separated to begin with. There are slidelines between the parts and I have added adaptive meshing and NLGEOM to try to help some of the excessive element distortion. However, the model seems to fall over at about increment 20 of 100. The message file is saying that I have a very distorted element (87), but this element has almost no distortion in it at that stage of the analysis.

Would anyone mind having a quick look at the model to see if there is something silly I'm missing - it is quite likely that I'm just not seeing the wood for the trees at this stage!

Thanks,
Ed

Hi IceBreakerSours,

Thanks for the reply - I can't do that as I'm simply writing the.inp file from scratch.
I have also realised that I can't use the *ADAPTIVE MESHING command in this way without converting the model to an explicit one.

However, even with this command taken out of the file, I still have the overclosure issues.

Thanks,
Ed
