Joystick steering

(OP)
Hello,
I am in the process of modifying a 48 volt electric golf cart so that a parapeligic person can operate from a wheelchair. I would like to convert original steering system to a joystick steering system . My question is does anybody have any ideas as to the best way to accomplish this? Attaching to original rack and pinion with gear motor? stepper motor? or replacing rack and pinion with linear acutator?
Thanks

RE: Joystick steering

Typical ranges of steering wheel torques are up to 30 Nm, and you also need to be able to turn the steering wheel at around 360 deg/sec. So whatever motor you select has to manage that. I'm not wildly keen on replacing the rack with a linear actuator.

Cheers
