Generate Isometric pipe drawing from 3D CAD

Generate Isometric pipe drawing from 3D CAD

(OP)
How do I generate a isometric pipe drawing from a 3D CAD. It contains bends, and I need a propper drawing of it.

RE: Generate Isometric pipe drawing from 3D CAD

Go to the drafting application click base view and choose to make an isometric view.

Its not excactly what Im looking for. When bending pipes, a plumer usualy uses isometric drawings like this example (http://www.econocap.fi/binary/file/-/fid/64/). Its a special way of drawing.

Im using NX8 if that is to any help.

RE: Generate Isometric pipe drawing from 3D CAD

I don't believe that our 'Pipe Routing' module supports this sort of 'schematic' representation of piping systems designed using NX. What you're showing as an example of what you'd look for in an AEC type CAD system used for building or process plant design, something which NX has never been marketed for nor actively sold into those particular industry segments. In NX, 'piping' is intended for the mechanical routing and assembly of pipe and pipe fittings in machinery where the various sections of pipe are pre-manufactured like most any other part of a machine. The 'drawing' that you've referenced is aimed at the plumbing of a building or a process plant where sections of pipe are cut-to-size on-site by the people actually erecting the piping system, a workflow common in the building and construction industry, but less so when dealing with machinery.

That being said, there is some work being done in an area where something like this might come into play but I need to check with some people to see what, if any, our plans might be for supporting something along these lines. If I learn anything, I'll update this post.

Hi SM411,
I am not sure (as John already stated) if we have anything simmilar like this but in the mean time try exploring PIPING COMPONENT FILE in Routing Mechanical and let us know.

RE: Generate Isometric pipe drawing from 3D CAD

Yes, it appears that we DO support so-called '2 1/2 D Diagraming' or 'Isometric Pipe Diagrams'. The toolbar which contains the functions for this sort of work can be activated by going to...

Start -> All Aplications -> Routing -> Logical...

Note that I don't have any experience using the Routing tools but there is courseware available.

Thanks alot. I will look into it tomorrow.

I tried for about a hour to figure out how to generate the drawing while I was in Logical routing. Couldnt get to it.

Its not an issue anymore, because we made a 2D drawing, but if anyone got a good solution for the future, I would appreciate it!

RE: Generate Isometric pipe drawing from 3D CAD

Hi SM411,
With reference to my earlier reply please find attached an image herewith.I have worked a bit on Routing mechanical/electrical (but not on logical drawing...i guess it helps you compare the RUNS in the 2d piping schematic and 3d piping assembly but no idea if it delivers more than that) but try this at your end and let us know.
I guess once you export a .pcf file from the piping assembly (use TOOLS-PIPING COMPONENT FILE to save a copy of the .pcf file).
This i guess can be imported (not sure though) inside a isometric drawing generator to give a detailed isogen drawing.Hope this is what you were looking for.

RE: Generate Isometric pipe drawing from 3D CAD

I don't remember the details but i think that Siemens has a 3-rd party solution called Isogen for Isometric drawings.
http://www.alias.ltd.uk/ISOGEN_main.asp and http://www.intergraph.com/products/ppm/smartplant/...
As said, i don't remember all the details but there might be something "Siemens inhouse" going on since Siemens bought Comos some time ago.
Comos might have a isometric generator. http://www.automation.siemens.com/mcms/plant-engin...
