B31.1 Allowable Pipe Butt Misalignment

B31.1 Allowable Pipe Butt Misalignment

B31.1 Allowable Pipe Butt Misalignment

(OP)
Hello-

B31.1(2012) Fig 127.3 shows a 1/16" offset between abutting pipe ends and para 127.3(c) states that alignment greater than 1/16" apart need to be trimmed.
It is not clear to me if this 1/16" offset is permissible on opposite sides of an I.D. or only a single side. In other words, may the right side pipe I.D be 1/16" smaller than the left side I.D. on top and bottom before I must trim I.D.'s to match ?

Thankyou.

RE: B31.1 Allowable Pipe Butt Misalignment

tc7;
Long time no hear. Hope all is well. The 1/16" is misalignment per side wall; so it can either be one side where tube ends touch and the other side is less than 1/8" total or split between two sides, 1/16" or less per side.
