temperature vs.yield strength reduction
temperature vs.yield strength reduction
(OP)
I am designing a structural steel frame (AISC C Channel Fy=36ksi) which will work under 400---500 F degree. I am trying to find how much yield strength will be reduced under this temperature. Can anybody shed some light on it?
many thanks.
many thanks.

As JoshP mentions, the AISC Manual has always had some discussion on temperature and how it effects structural steel. Modulus of Elasticity starts decreasing slowly with temp. elevations above room temp. And yield and tensile strengths start decreasing at about 600-700°F. The attached is from “Structural Steel Designers’ Handbook,” Edited by Frederick S. Merritt, Pub. by McGraw-Hill.
