NFPA 30 Insulation requirements

NFPA 30 Insulation requirements

NFPA 30 Insulation requirements

(OP)
Hi,
I have to design a 45 000L of Ethanol (95% alcohol) tank,to be installed outside,
for sunny days, we have to insulate the tank.
What is the requirement of the insulation ?, I have checked NFPA30.

Thanks for your help.
Laurent.

RE: NFPA 30 Insulation requirements

As per NFPA 30: 3) T he insulation shall maintain a maximum conductance value of 4.0 Btu per hr per ft2 per degree
Fahrenheit (Btu/hr/ft2/°F) when the outer insulation jacket or cover is at a temperature of 904°C
(1660°F) and when the mean temperature of the insulation is 538°C (1000°F).

You did not see this?

RE: NFPA 30 Insulation requirements

I doubt very much that it is the temperature values that 401laurent has in mind. I think that the value presented by trashcanman is to protect the tanks from radiant and convective heat transfer due to external fires.

I agree with CHIICOPEE, During the tank operation the temperature never reachs this high value. the tank is only for storage.insulation is required just for limiting sun heat transfer.
thanks.
Laurent.

RE: NFPA 30 Insulation requirements

there may no be a requirement to keep the tank cool from the heat of the day.

Doing a serach of NFPA 30 does not seem to indicate it
