SW20112 on Windows 8

SW20112 on Windows 8

I am sorry if this has been covered before but I did not find an answer when I did a search.

I am in line to get a new computer, Lenovo W530, and wondering if SW 2012 will run on Windows 8. I have a network license so I cannot test this out on my home PC which runs Windows 8. SW2013 is not an option for us at this time, renewal fee for 2 seats and flowsimulation is not in the budget at this time. The CEO wants everyone to switch to Windows 8 either by Upgrade or new computer.

Does anyone have experience running SW2012 and Flowsimulation on Windows 8? If so do you have any stability issues or anything that I should know about?

Thank you for your time and help,
Glenn

All seemed well until the last round of Windows 8 updates that seem to go through on Friday. I have problems saving or closing out a window. If it is a small assembly 2-3 parts then it does not seem to be a problem. If I try to save a large assembly nothing happens the program just hangs. If I hit escape then things come back to life. It is almost like the save window is popping up on another monitor. Unfortunately I am working on a laptop at home with only one monitor. At the office I have 3...... Wonder if the computer is confused.

Changing to run in compatibility mode did not seem to help the problem.

Anyone have any suggestions, short of getting the company to pay for the subscription fee.

Thank you for your time and help,

Anna,

I will try that in the morning when I am back in the office.

One band aid fix I did find is to use "Save As" and just write over the existing file. Kind of mad at myself for not thinking of that earlier after losing about 2-3 hours of work done yesterday on some assembly files.

Problem did not happen at work on Monday but I was able to dig up the 2012 SP4.0 files from another computer so I have upgraded to that. No problems since.

So far I have pretty good luck with 2012 on Win8. I have done about a dozen renderings of our products and I have run about a dozen Flow Simulations with out any crashes since getting a new computer with Win8.

Our subscription ran out in the summer. Then everyone in the company was forced to upgrade to Win8. I will try to negotiate for upgrading the software next fall when 2014 comes out.
