Progressive Sampling for Examination in ASME B31.3

Progressive Sampling for Examination in ASME B31.3

Progressive Sampling for Examination in ASME B31.3

(OP)
Hi every body
I have a question about paragraph 341.3.4(e) B31.3:
(e) if any of the items examined as required by (c) above reveals a defect, all items represented by the progressive sampling shall be either:
(1) repaired or replaced and reexamined as required;
or
(2) fully examined and repaired or replaced as necessary, and reexamined as necessary to meet the requirements of this Code.
what is difference between (1) and (2) of this paragraph ?

RE: Progressive Sampling for Examination in ASME B31.3

I believe (1) permits the item to be "repaired or replaced" without being "fully examined" prior to repair or replacement.

RE: Progressive Sampling for Examination in ASME B31.3

In terms of context, fully examined in this application means the entire weld regardless if spot or random examination was originally performed.

meteger
when do we do fully examined untill?
or had better say fully examined shall be done on which welded joint that welder has welded?

RE: Progressive Sampling for Examination in ASME B31.3

Quote:

fully examined shall be done on which welded joint that welder has welded

Yes.
