Replacing a Battery Charger

Replacing a Battery Charger

(OP)
I am working on replacing a battery charger at a hydro site. This my first time working with a battery charger so I am a little confused on how to go about it.

I need find out if I can replace a 130Vdc, 25Adc, 240Vac battery charger with a 130Vdc,35Adc, 240Vac battery charger? The charger is connected to a 125 A DC bus.

My question is what calculations do I need to use in order to compare both charger? Any help would be appreciated.

RE: Replacing a Battery Charger

For sizing the battery charger, it needs to supply both the entire DC load and to recharge the battery within x hours from a full discharge state. For comparing chargers of the same ratings, there are lot of other attributes such as reliability, internal topology, self monitoring features, communications features, efficiency and capital cost are not easy to calculate.

Be sure to check the sizing of the AC supply as well, especially if you are changing sizes or topologies.

Once you purchase a new charger, there are also several parameters to set based upon the number of cells and the type of battery you are charging.
