How to reset displacement to zero after a geostatic step?

How to reset displacement to zero after a geostatic step?

How to reset displacement to zero after a geostatic step?

(OP)
Hello,
I was wondering if there is a way to reset displacement to zero after a geostatic step (or any load step) in Abaqus?

Thanks in advance

RE: How to reset displacement to zero after a geostatic step?

Hi,

do you need that in order to repeat the simulation under different loads or so?

cheers

RE: How to reset displacement to zero after a geostatic step?

I actually need to reset my displacements to zero before continuing to the next step, while keeping my generated stresses.

In geotechnical soil analysis, after the initial stresses are calculated using gravity loading, the displacements should be reset to zero at the start of the next calculation step. This will remove the effect of initial stress generation procedure on the displacements developed during subsequent calculation steps, while the stresses remain.

RE: How to reset displacement to zero after a geostatic step?

Sorry, I had it backwards in my head. Geostatic step should bring the model back to equilibrium. If the displacements are large, then you need to double-check your loads. Otherwise, you may need to invoke the enhanced procedure. See section 6.8.2 of the Analysis User's Manual (v6.12) for details.
