V5R20 Student, open STEP files?

V5R20 Student, open STEP files?

V5R20 Student, open STEP files?

(OP)
Alright, so I use NX at work, but since my university requires that I take a class in CATIA I went out and bought the Student license. Last night playing around with it I tried to open some files I had brought home from the office, both in STEP214 format. Each time I tried to open them it just said that no translator was available.

Am I missing something? Do I have to be in a specific workbench to open STEP files. Or does the student license not allow you to open STEP files? Does it allow you to open anything else, like IGES or STL? I'd understand not being able to export files to keep the whole no commercial use, but restricting the input data types? So I'm assuming the fault lays with the fleshy bit at the keyboard.

I found that IGES files open without issue, haven't played around with STEP since.

RE: V5R20 Student, open STEP files?

I am not sure what modules the student license includes but it is File-Open to bring in any file. Did you install step? I believe it is the ST1 package also covered under YM2 configuration.

Make sure the file extension is .stp not .step. I have had some iges files with the extension .iges and they will not open unless I change them to .igs.
